3rd Annual Celebration of Marriage

Today marks 3 years of wedded bliss for me and Grant - and it has been awesome. If I could sum up our love in one word it would be: adventurous.

We just came back from 2 weeks abroad and as we explored the Republic of Ireland and the South of England, I just had to marvel at how blessed I am to have him. We'd be on a train or in a car or on a plane, and it would hit me: I get to spend the rest of my life with this guy. He's so easy to be with.

There's a comfortable kind of love that comes with a deepened intimacy that only gets sweeter with time.

Sure, in the beginning who doesn't love the butterflies and jitters that come with new and uncharted territory? But as that season passes, and a new one takes its place, there's a lasting peace and an abiding joy that comes with knowing each other - and being known - on a cellular level and a cosmic one.

This new phase is more of finishing each other's sentences, reading each other's minds, and sharing a whole paragraph in a quick glance or tiny gesture. There is a oneness that I wouldn't trade for all the butterflies in the world!

And yet...

The one who swept you off your feet can do it again and again. He can still surprise you. And when he does, all the jitters and butterflies come flooding back in a heady mixture of together-forever and who-knows-what's-next.

There may be nothing more precious than dancing bare foot together in the kitchen in the dark.

Grant: I've always loved you and I always will.

Sabbatical

I'll be taking a tiny break from blogging for the next few weeks. But I'll be back with fresh ideas and (hopefully) a renewed perspective on life and writing!

See you in June!

Man boys

Have you encountered the phenomenon of the Man boys?

They are men by age but boys by action.

They are the 29-37 year-olds who still game, who still drink too much, who still party too hard - trying to relive or revive their college experience. They refuse to hold down a legitimate relationship and fill their days with reminiscing and looking backward not forward.

There is a specific breed that reside in Jackson Hole - an enlightening, tongue-in-cheek article about them can be found here.

It's all fun and games and not of any real consequence, except that Andy's recent message highlights this scripture:

"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me"
- 1 Corinthians 13:11

He spoke about the importance of putting childish ways behind you, growing up, and taking on the responsibilities of manhood. It was a pretty powerful message. I'm eager to see what his next message highlights.

Do you know any Man boys? Are you dating one? I would advise waiting for the real thing, so if you marry, you'll have hooked your wagon to a man, not a boy still indulging in the ways of childhood.

Lucille's Mountain Top Inn

I have a fun new place to tell you about: Lucille's Mountain Top Inn. I figured since it's my birthday week and this B&B shares my name, I'd highlight it.

How dreamy is this locale?

Nestled at the foot of the Appalatian Mountains, Lucille's is just outside Helen:

and (of course) it has a spa...!

26 years and none the wiser

Today's my 26th Birthday!

Here are the birth announcements that my Mama made by hand and sent out from our home in Alaska 26 years ago.

My daddy was an Air Force pilot flying A-10s (as pictured) and Mama was a teacher.

A lot has changed since then, but a lot has stayed the same: love, family, hope, joy, and faith.
